Factors to Consider before Buying Blender

Blender is a kitchen appliance that grinds food items to a liquid consistency. We can use the blender for fruit smoothies in breakfast, creamy soups in dinner, and in the night for homemade margaritas. Blenders are available in plastic, glass, and steel. You can be creative with the blender and try on different ingredients and textures and make delicious smoothies in the blender. There are many varieties in blenders: one blender is better at crushing ice while another is good for just mixing batters or making soups. Since the blender is so important these days than before buying we must consider the following factors:

The Motor

In the blender, the most important thing is the motor which must be at least 500 watts of power. Blender strength depends upon the power of the motor as the motor turns thick and hard food materials into paste or a soft form. Ordinary blender of low watts is not capable of managing few ice cubes in the jar while a powerful one can do the job tremendously.

The Jug

Jug is also an important part of the blender and they can be made up of plastic, glass, or stainless steel. Plastic blender jar is generally cheaper as compare to the glass one. However, plastic is generally not considered to be a healthy option and hence glass blender jars are a preferable option health wise. Glass jars being expensive and fragile are not so common and rather ultra hard copolymer is used for superior quality blenders which is neither plastic nor glass.

The Blades

The blades are a vital part of the blender as they process the food items. In ordinary blenders, the blades sometime break off due to low quality materials and assembly. Strong blades however; are capable of chopping down virtually everything jug. In these blenders, wave action is created and the entire stuff is dissolved or mixed downwards in the jar as the blades spin. The Drive System

Last thing you have to be vigilant about the bender is its drive system. The drive system comprises on the bottom of the jug that attaches to the base. Metal is considered to be better and long lasting as compared to plastic. In order to maintain the performance of the machine and motor while running the blades, do not rely upon plastic and ensure you get a blender with a metal drive system so that there is lesser wear and tear.

Food Processor or Blender? Which one you should Get

When it comes to grinding or chopping food, one might think a machine with a jug and a blade should be enough to process just about any kind of food. If you haven’t spent much time in the kitchen you’ll say that a food processor and a blender are both jugs with a blade and should therefore perform the same tasks. Although this description is true in simplest terms but keep reading and you’ll learn that they have some glaring differences and are for that reason used for separate purposes.

What qualities does best food processors have? One which is capable of slicing, mixing, chopping, shredding and pureeing is one you want to buy. Food processors come with attachments for slicing and shredding. These are the tasks which otherwise require intensive labor such as mixing dough or shredding cheese or slicing vegetables. If you have tried any of these tasks you will be aware that they are time-consuming and tiring. A food processor is a large flat bowl with blades at different heights so that one can cut at the bottom and one above it.

Blenders work better with liquids. The shape of the jug and the blades at the end enable to push the solid pieces down and blend them with the liquid. If there is not enough liquid, a blender will not work properly. Blenders work with liquids better than food processors. If you’re looking for something to make a smoothie or soup then pick a blender. If you are looking for something to work with more solid food for example to make dough, or chop/slice vegetables or cheese, or grind bread crumbs, then you want a food processor.

The difference is not just in what they do but also in their size. Blenders usually come in smaller sizes than food processors and are not capable of holding enough liquid. Also, you cannot utilize the maximum capacity of a blender jug because if you fill it to the rim it will overflow while blending. You can only fill it up to say three-fourth of its maximum capacity without the danger of overflowing. Conversely, a food processor has a large capacity and usually comes with attachments of smaller bowls and blades so as to suit your requirements.

Differences aside, both are an inevitable part of any kitchen and make work a lot easier and quicker. If you are regularly working in the kitchen and have the money then have both these equipment at your disposal, it will make your life much easier and you will be spending much less time in the kitchen. But if you have the money to buy only one of the two then ask yourself what do you make more often and want help in? Is it smoothies or soup? Because if it is then buy a blender. If you are working with dough, butter or vegetables more often, than a food processor is what you are looking for.
